Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy explains the cookies and similar technologies Sammurai, Corp. ("Sammurai", "we", "us") uses on its website, in its web app and in its iPhone and Android apps: what each one is for, how long it lasts, and what you can do about it. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.

Sammurai is only for adults aged 18 and over, and is currently offered only to people in the United States.

1. What This Policy Covers

  • Our website, sammurai.ai (and www.sammurai.ai), where you can read about Sammy and get the apps.

  • The Sammurai web app, app.sammurai.ai, where you sign in and use Sammy in a browser.

  • The Sammy apps for iPhone and Android.

2. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser and reads back later. Local storage and session storage do a similar job inside your browser: local storage stays until you clear it, and session storage ends when you close the tab. Mobile apps do not use browser cookies. Instead they can keep small values on your device, and they can include software development kits (SDKs) from other companies.

3. What We Use, in Short

  • Strictly necessary: cookies that keep you signed in to the web app, and secure storage that keeps you signed in to the apps.

  • Functional: a few values in your browser that remember a choice, so you are not asked again.

  • Our own measurement: one cookie in the web app that groups our own usage records by visit (Section 5).

  • Google Analytics for Firebase: in the Android app (Section 4.3).

  • Advertising, cross-site tracking and tracking pixels: none. We do not use them on the website, in the web app or in the apps.

Our website and web app do not run Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics today.

4. The Full List

4.1 The Sammurai web app (app.sammurai.ai)

  • shen_access (cookie, set by Sammurai, strictly necessary): keeps you signed in. It lasts 15 minutes and is renewed while you use the web app. Scripts on the page cannot read it.

  • shen_refresh (cookie, set by Sammurai, strictly necessary): renews your sign-in. It lasts 30 days, or until you sign out. Scripts on the page cannot read it.

  • shen_sid (cookie, set by Sammurai, our own measurement): a random identifier for this browser visit. It lets us tell which of our own usage records came from the same visit (Section 5). It holds nothing else and does not sign you in. It ends when you close your browser.

  • sammy.signin.dateOfBirth (local storage, functional): the date of birth you typed at sign-in, so you are not asked for it again in this browser. It stays on your device until you clear your browser data.

  • sammy.pushPrompt.dismissed (local storage, functional): remembers that you dismissed the offer to turn on browser notifications. It stays until you clear your browser data.

  • sammy.aiConsent.askedThisSession, sammy.privacyChoices.askedThisSession and sammy.signedUpThisSession (session storage, functional): whether a consent screen was already shown in this tab, so it is not shown twice. They end when you close the tab.

When you choose to sign in with Apple, the sign-in page loads Apple's sign-in script from Apple. When you sign in with Google you use a Google sign-in window, and when you subscribe to Sammy Plus on the web you are taken to Stripe's payment page. Those companies may set their own cookies on their own sites under their own policies.

4.2 The Sammurai website (sammurai.ai)

  • sammy-site-theme (local storage, functional): remembers the colour theme you chose on the website. It stays until you clear your browser data.

The website sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or advertising scripts.

4.3 The iPhone and Android apps

  • Secure storage on your device (Sammurai, strictly necessary): keeps you signed in while you are signed in.

  • Push notification token (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android, delivered through Expo's push service): lets us send you the notifications you have allowed. It is created only if you allow notifications.

  • Google Analytics for Firebase, Android app: the Android app tells Google Analytics how it is used, from the time it is first opened: for example which screens are opened, signing in or signing up, and starting a Sit Down, with your device type, app version and approximate location, linked to an identifier for your installation of the app. We never send Google your name, your email address, your account identifier or anything you say, and collection of the advertising identifier is turned off. The Android app available today has no switch for this inside the app.

  • Google Analytics for Firebase, iPhone app: the iPhone app includes it, but collection is turned off and nothing in the app turns it on, so the iPhone app sends no usage data to Google Analytics.

The apps do not track you as Apple defines it, so they do not show Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.

5. Our Own Usage Records

Separately from Google, Sammurai's own servers keep a record of actions in the service, such as a Sit Down being started, with the time, the platform (web, iPhone or Android), the app version and, in the web app, the visit identifier in the shen_sid cookie. These records are linked to your account so that we can keep the service working and understand how it is used. Our servers record them for everyone who uses the service. They are kept on our own servers, are not shared with Google or any other company, and are not used for advertising. The Privacy Policy explains how long they are kept and what happens to them when you delete your account.

6. Your Choices

  • Your browser: you can block or delete cookies and storage at any time in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary cookies, you cannot stay signed in to the web app.

  • Notifications: you can turn them off in your phone's or browser's notification settings.

  • Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track: our website and web app run no third-party analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking, so there is nothing for these signals to turn off there.

  • Android analytics: the Android app available today does not offer a switch for Google Analytics for Firebase. If you do not want it, you can use Sammurai in the web app instead.

7. Changes to This Policy

We update this policy when the technologies we use, their providers or how long they last change. The date at the top shows the last change.
